bedroom blues...

During thing 2's naptime yesterday I broke out a can of paint & spruced up our little bedroom. I stole furniture, pillows, frames ...you name it all from other rooms and it turned out pretty cute!
(all the other rooms are now naked, but what the hey!)
I'm hoping Tim will get on board with my idea for batten board on the lil blue wall.....so stay tuned!

here are a few close ups..

So there you have it, it's a lil room packed with character. I painted the wall on a whim the paint was leftover from my blue door that you can read about here. I started out just checking to see if I liked the paint with just a can & a brush and I'm so impatient that i painted the whole wall with the brush! Who does that? I'm a dork....I found out later that we actually have rollers & pads in the shop...again I was too impatient to even look! Tomorrow I'll give it a 2nd coat of paint the right way!

The vintage suitcases & trunk came from Tim's grandparents. The trunk went on a roadtrip with the Snyders  I believe 1912 and has an original sticker from the trip I can partially read Ft. Wayne Indiana. I'll have to get the deets from my father in law on the trip ...pretty sure he has pics!

The only thing purchased for the bedroom recently was the casual bedding from target...on clearance! I'm so proud...was $89.99!!! Woot Woot!

Happy Wednesday!

Chicken Scratch

Chicken Scratch…they love it! I’ve been giving the girls scratch, I throw it in their yard and they go crazy for it…kinda like catnip but not… maybe it should be called chickynip…doesn’t sound quite as nice! Actually it sounds dirty whoops!
Speaking of scratch….I’ve been blog watching since I seem to have no get up & go of my own! I found a cute project over at less than perfect life of bliss…she called this her blessing board.  I really liked the idea so I used some leftover fabric, paint and an old picture frame I was planning to get rid of. So I like to think I made it from scratch since I mainly used leftovers….aside from the lettering…not bad eh?      Here is what I started the project with....

I had fun making a few of these fabric flowers....

Here is the final product...our Thankful Board, I love that there is no chalk dust...just write on the glass with a dry erase marker!
My 5yr old helped me make the list, I plan to change it out each week & involve the whole fam! (Tim's rolling his eyes)

The letters came in a set complete with a nail file to "rough" up the edges!
This project was simple and will be a great reminder to us that we have so much to be thankful for!

If you like this project you'll enjoy Julie's blog that I recently found!

Chicks on a Roadtrip!

Serena at the farm chicks has kindly shared a linky to my blog!! In celebration of the big event for my lil blog I thought I'd add to my post & share a few more pics of the fabulous vendor displays at the show...you can view other blogs and Serenas blog here!

Check out Kelly's blog here all about the farm chicks with awesome pics (she's an amazing photographer) you'll love her post!

and here is a lil more eye candy for all you junkers!

Seriously, this lady brought a silo.....of course she sold it at the show!

Well, I had the rare opportunity to leave home with an old College roomie to hit the Farm Chicks show over the weekend and lets just say I'll be back (read in Arnold's Terminator voice) and not only that ...I'll bring the truck next time!

Kelly and I drove over on Friday to pre-purchase tickets...what a good plan that was, Saturday the line went as far as my bad eyes could see!

The show opened at 10am...we were in line at 7:30, with coffee, sunshine & so many creative women to chat with...the time flew by!

We ran into a few farm chicks in town...the gals of Grandiflora in Lynden Wa.....as veteran shoppers they were kind to give us newbies some tips & tricks! I'm hoping to visit their shop when we are up north for cousin Jakes' wedding in July!

just a few highlights and a purchase that I'm loving...

love these ruffles

The owner of Vintage Barn with Kelly...she was wheelin' & dealin....the windmill in the background was a great purchase made by Kelly! I think she would have taken home most of this girls booth if we had more room in the car!

"lil' boy blue".....nuff said...he's in my living room and he's FABULOUS!

Maybe I should tell the whole story...so we were probably the 30th people in line with an estimated 5,000 people to attend the show.  I was pretty excited to get first pick of some great items, however when you offer less than the price in the first hour of a show...your going to get shot down pretty quick!(At least I learned that real fast!) I guess it's like a boy asking the prettiest girl in school to the prom when she doesn't even know his name. You don't have a chance... (sorry that's the best example I could think of...and I'm a dork!) I found a really neat old chicken crate all wood, it would have made a perfect coffee table, so I offered less...what I thought was fair and I was turned down....then I moved on to another booth...same thing...then I fell in love with "blue boy" and I offered a little more than I would normally...and I was once again shot down. See there were another 4,999 people who would be coming by and seeing "blue boy" too! I chatted with the owner, she was really nice...then I continued my shopping. But I just didin't see anything that measured up to lil' boy blue as I call him now!

As I walked around the show the anxiety began to build...did I just drive 5 hours, stay overnight in a hotel....get up earlier than I would normally to wait in line for over 2 hours to not return with anything I really loved? That's when I decided I needed to give another go at lil' boy blue so I headed back to Junebug and offered Gladys every last penny in my wallet...I literally told her I loved the painting and I wanted it so bad that I would empty my purse for it! And I DID!!  She was so sweet she said yes and the rest is history!

If I had another purse to empty I would have brought this old car home too!

I returned home Saturday night tired and beat from driving and talking with my buddy for 5 hours straight...we had a few years of chatting to catch up on...it was Great (no man would have survived the constant chatter in the car...did i mention it was great?)

But I must say I have the best man ever, when he opened the trunk of the car and locked eyes with lil' boy blue...he laughed and asked...is this what you bought? Then he hung it up for me the next day...I only had to beg a couple of times!

ooh here are my new hunk-o-wood end tables all shellacked up and purdy!

It was a whirlwind weekend and
this is one tired chick!

Taking a Chance on Blue

Today I’m taking a chance on blue… I'm usually all about green..but I have a new love for all things blue.
I'm painting my front door BLUE. Thankfully I can paint right over it if I decide I don’t like it in say...  3 months which is my average for liking just about anything decor related. (It’s a curse I received from my mom:)

Decisions Decisions.....paint samples, my rug & favorite new blue thingy...
hmm looks a little gray in this pic...but it's actualy a nice blue..go figure!

And here she is after…I am satisfied. I’ll enjoy looking at this pic in a few days when my little chair is covered with laundry and nerf bullets are suctioned to the freshly painted door.

and here's the door again...how silly do I feel talking about a door, but it truly is more fun to look at now!
